According to DMW Secretary Ople, they will release the humanitarian assistance to OFW-Saudi Claimants for unpaid wages within the next two weeks with DMW-OWWA leading the distribution efforts. The signing of the Memorandum of Agreement was held on March 11, 2023 and almost two weeks passed already but no sign of distribution has been made.
OWWA Administrator, Arnel said that the agency will soon issue the implementing guidelines for the release of the funds and that the grant will be released directly to the claimants.
“OWWA has sufficient funds for this humanitarian program, and we are ready to help the claimants, as we have done in the past,” he said.
For its part, OWWA shall create an electronic or digital portal that will allow the intended OFW beneficiaries to register and avail of the assistance package.
The DMW-OWWA and DSWD were supposed to provide P5,000 each for an estimated 10,000 workers-claimants, based on OWWA records. In all, the agencies will each allot P50 million to cover the financial grant. Earlier, Migrant Workers Secretary Susan Ople and Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) providing P10,000 as financial aid for each worker seeking unpaid wages from several Saudi construction companies that declared bankruptcy from 2015 to 2019.
Hopefully, the 100 million allocated to all the 10,000 claimants will finally get cash aid from our government and not just pure press releases.
