Scotland's St. Andrew’s Day on November 30, 2010

MANILA, Philippines – November 30, Tuesday is Scotland's St. Andrew's Day. Saint Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland and St. Andrew's Day is Scotland's official national day. To mark this special occasion, several events are held, such as celebratory dinners and ceilidhs (traditional Gaelic social gatherings) around the nation. Located in the eastern part of Scotland, the town of St. Andrews celebrates its patron in style with a week-long St. Andrews Festival, incorporating music, arts, dance, and drama. This year, the Scottish Government has launched a poster competition for schools with the theme of Scotland's Food and Drink. As early as 2003, the idea of making St. Andrew's Day an official bank holiday was broached by Dennis Canavan, Independent Member of the Scottish Parliament for Falkirk West. Three years later, the Scottish Parliament proclaimed St. Andrew's Day as an official holiday. St. Andrew's Day is celebrated not only in Scotland but al

George W. Bush appears live on Facebook chat

DALLAS – Former President George W. Bush talked in a relaxed Facebook Live webcast about everything from the joy of spending time with his parents to some of the hard decisions he made as president. When Facebook founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg asked Bush Monday why he decided to appear on Facebook, Bush quipped: "Because you've got a lot of people paying attention to us, and I'm trying to sell books." In the hour-long chat webcast on Facebook's live video streaming channel, Bush stood by his vow to not criticize the current administration, but he did respond to a question asking what he thought the Obama administration had handled well. Bush said he thought they'd done well with Afghanistan so far. Bush's book, "Decision Points," was released this month.   — AP

Facebook moves closer to trademarking the word 'face'

NEW YORK (AP) -- Facebook has moved a step closer toward trademarking the word "face" - at least in certain contexts. The company's 2005 application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office received a "notice of allowance" Tuesday, which means Facebook now has six months to show that it uses the trademark and pay a $100 fee, said Cynthia Lynch, administrator for trademark policy and procedure at the agency. Or, it can file for an extension for up to 36 months. Once that's done, the trademark can be approved or rejected. Even if it's approved, Facebook wouldn't have a trademark on "face" in every instance, only in online   chat  rooms   and electronic bulletin boards for the "transmission of messages among computer users in the field of general interest and concerning social and entertainment subject matter," according to the Patent and Trademark Office's database entry on the application. It oddly exempts uses "primarily
