Filipino boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel “Manny" Pacquiao and his opponent Antonio Margarito on Saturday passed the weigh-in for their Sunday morning (in Manila) bout in Texas.
Radio dzBB reported Pacquiao weighed in at 144.6 lbs., six pounds under the “catch" weight of 150, and nearly 10 pounds under the maximum weight for the welterweight division.
Margarito weighed in at 150 pounds, the catch weight for the division.
Pacquiao, whose camp vowed to pummel Margarito on Sunday, said he will concentrate on speed, following his rigorous two-week training.
“Kailangan mag-focus tayo sa speed. Malaking factor yan; yan ang magiging susi sa tagumpay ko (I have to focus on speed. It will be a big factor. Speed will be the key to my victory)," he said.
He said he was undeterred by Margarito’s advantage in weight, saying he had trained hard the last two weeks.
“Basta laban tayo, sa karangalan ng bansa (I will just fight for the nation’s honor)," he said. — LBG
