I constantly see "dog raffle'' on my Facebook feed but I have never played even once. I actually bought my three dog pets on the Marketplace, Shih-Tzu, Pomeranian, and Maltese and these breeds of dogs are costly especially if they will come along with PCCI. The Philippine Canine Club, Inc. was organized on March 21, 1963, as a non-stock, non-profit service-oriented corporation for the purpose of promoting and encouraging the love for pure-bred dogs.
Quality dogs from legit breeders are usually registered on PCCI. Of my three pets only my Pomeranian has PCCI which I bought for Ph20,000.
Earlier, this morning I have seen a post on Facebook from an Animal Shelter in Bulacan, "Pawssion Project" opening up another sensitive topic about dogs being put into a raffle. The page highly condemns such act and highly encourage everyone to report posts that offer PET RAFFLES.
Here is Pawsion Project's complete post regarding the issue:
Opening up another “sensitive” topic tonight but what we saw here on Facebook was just extra frustrating. What is your comment on this issue? Kindly shout out at the comment section below.
Yes, we get soooo many hate because of our stand against Breeding. Even if some say they are “responsible breeders”, there are still more Backyard Breeders out there. Direct your hate towards them, not to Animal Welfare groups. And ask yourself: are you breeding to “keep the standards of the breed” or because you see it as “passive income”?
We are firm on our belief that there is NOTHING RIGHT about breeding pets for PROFIT. They are not products you can just sell or raffle out to the next interested buyer. These are living beings that have needs. It is a lifetime commitment to be responsible for these animals.
And if you really want a pet, why does it only matter when they have breeds? There are MILLIONS of stray animals getting impounded, thousands of Rescues waiting at Animal Shelters. When people choose to support breeders, animals in city pounds and shelters lose the chance to find their own homes.
Please help by reporting posts that offer PET RAFFLES. This is ILLEGAL.
Pet Breeders and Pet Sellers also have to be accredited by Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Animal Industry.
