Are you a dog lover who are planning to buy an imported dog breed soon? Here are some of the tips and considerations before buying one. Rule Number one is that you should have a budget for the fur baby. Buying a "budget meal" puppy more often times leads to trouble since you don't know the history of the puppy.
A quality shih-tzu, pomeranian or maltese puppies should have a Philippine Canine Club Inc Certificate(PCCI). The PCCI is a nonstock, nonprofit, service-oriented corporation established for the primary purpose of handling the registration of the growing number of pure-bred dogs in the country. It is internationally recognized as the only registering body for pedigreed dogs in the country and is an active member of two international canine organizations, the 90 member Federation Cynologique International (FCI) based in Brussels, Belgium.

It is always better if you will re-home a dog when it is already 4 to 5 months old. By that time, a legit and responsible breeder should have completed the series of vaccination of the puppy including the anti-rabies. And by that age, the puppy will be more agile during the pet transportation going to your home if you are not going to pick it up.
Make sure the puppy's vaccination was performed at the clinic and the health card was signed by a registered veterinarian. In my experience, when I bought a pomeranian puppy aged 2 and half months from Batangas, the seller told me that the puppy was in good condition by sending me a video of the puppy, which looks really healthy on the video. So I paid P16,000 for the puppy including pet transportation worth P2,000 pesos. However, the seller did not advise that another puppy will be transported together with my puppy at the same time with the same rider. The seller told me, that the motorcycle rider left Batangas at around 2pm and expected to arrive at my place after 3 hours only. To cut the story short, at around 10 p.m. the rider still did notify me of his current location. So I decided to ask the seller for his mobile number. When I called him, I heard from the background, that some dogs are barking with meant he is not traveling anymore. And he confirms that he is in another house for the delivery of another puppy. Around 10:30, the rider arrived at my apartment and I saw that the puppy is inside a small cage. When I brought him inside the house, he looks very tired and I was advised not to give him water until after 30 minutes. So I did what was advised of me by the seller. After one hour I gave the puppy an aozi dog food softened with water and after an hour, the puppy discharge loose poops. I though it was just because due to stress for long hours of travel. The next day, the puppy seizures and eventually crossed the rainbow bridge.
I have learned from a dog group in Facebook that the seller is actually a buy-and-sell seller so she was not really aware of the history of the puppy.
Therefore, you need to make sure you are buying from a legit and registered breeder and visit the kennl if you can to see the actual condition of the puppy.
As I have always read on "Dog Lovers" group do not settle on a "budget meal" puppy since your obligations as a fur mom or dad will not end on buying a puppy. You have to provide them food, vitamins, and medicines and bring them to the vet clinic from time to time.
