The supposed to be 14 hours of water interruption by Maynilad was extended to more hours. The announcement is from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm the other day. I left my apartment at 7:30 am and there was still no water running on my faucet.
Netizens erupted and were not happy with the water interruption timing. Work from Home should be implemented this time considering our weather conditions.
According to Philstar report, Maynilad said the elevation at Angat Dam is still manageable as of mid-March. However, as warned by PAGASA, the water firm does not expect sufficient rain over the watersheds in succeeding months to replenish the dams.
Maynilad on their Facebook page announced:
Our customers in portions of Bacoor City, Caloocan City, Cavite City, Imus City, Kawit, Cavite, Las Piñas City, Makati City, Malabon City, Manila, Navotas City, Noveleta, Cavite, Parañaque City, Pasay City, Quezon City, Rosario, Cavite and Valenzuela City will have daily water service interruption starting March 28, 2023 and March 29, 2023 as part of a measure to preserve our limited stored water, given the increased likelihood of an El Niño phenomenon happening by the latter half of 2023. While the elevation in Angat Dam, which provides 90% of the raw water supply for the West Zone, is still at a healthy level as of mid-March, sufficient rains are not expected to fall over the watersheds in the succeeding months to replenish the dams.
These daily service interruptions will last depending on the actual raw water volume that our treatment plants will receive, as well as on actual rainfalls that will occur at the watersheds.
We have existing supply augmentation measures, such as the reactivation of deep wells and commissioning of modular treatment plants. But these will only mitigate the impact of a shortage that can happen if stored water in Angat Dam dips further, given the expected dry spell. The effect is already seen at Ipo Dam, where water elevation has started going down over the past few weeks.
Meanwhile, we advise our customers to keep enough water stored for your needs during the hours when supply will not be available. Please keep stored water in clean, covered containers.
Upon resumption of water service, please expect some discoloration in the supply. This is a normal consequence of service interruptions, as the returning supply scours the naturally occurring mineral deposits inside the pipelines. When this happens, let the water flow out briefly until it clears, but use the initial flow of water for non-drinking purposes, such as for flushing toilets.
In case needed, our mobile water tankers are on standby ready to deliver potable water.
We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you.
NOTE: The interruption schedules starting March 28 onwards that are specified on this post will supersede the ones in the initial service advisory titled "Daily Water Service Interruption for March 26 to March 29".
