Philippine volleyball superstar Alyssa Valdez has acknowledged that the Shakey’s V-League, now staging its Season 12-Open Conference, helped greatly in honing her skills while she was completing the one-year residency requirement before she could play for Ateneo in the UAAP as a transferee from the University of Santo Tomas.
For the record, the 20-year-old Ateneo psychology graduate first played in the Shakey’s V-League for her new school. She remembers feeling only a little fazed by the tough teams her school was pitted against. “I would say that the experience prepared me for the tougher competition ahead. It served me in good stead as I started playing for the Lady Blue Eagles in the UAAP.”
The rest is history. On her third playing year in the UAAP she powered the Lady Blue Eagles to their first ever UAAP championship and to their second this year, endearing her in the hearts of legions of fans all over the country in the process.
