Congratulations mga Kapuso, GMA Network still No. 1 on the first quarter of 2014.
GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) remained undefeated in television ratings across viewer-rich Urban Luzon and Mega Manila in February, citing data from the industry’s more widely recognized ratings provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement. From February 1 to 28 (February 23 to 28 based on overnight data), GMA outperformed rivals ABS-CBN and TV5 in Urban Luzon as it scored 34.1 percent in total day ratings. GMA was ahead of ABS-CBN’s 31.8 percent by 2.3 points and TV5’s 12.1 percent by a remarkable 22 points.
Urban Luzon’s share in the country’s urban TV household population increased to 77 percent from last year’s 76 percent. Majority (16 out of 30) of the top-performing regular programs in Urban Luzon belonged to GMA with multi-awarded news magazine program Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS) besting all other programs in the list. Joining KMJS in the top 10 are fellow weekend top-raters Pepito Manaloto: Ang Tunay na Kuwento, Celebrity Bluff, and Magpakailanman.
Not far behind are Saturday night sitcom Vampire Ang Daddy Ko, hard-hitting public affairs program Imbestigador, GMA’s flagship newscast 24 Oras, the country’s longest running noontime show Eat Bulaga, and primetime dramas Carmela and Adarna, which ended its run in February. The list also includes the drama series Rhodora X, the longest running gag show on Philippine TV Bubble Gang, GMA’s flagship documentary program I-Witness, weekend game show Picture! Picture!, afternoon soap opera Villa Quintana, and the popular Koreanovela A 100-Year Legacy.
Leading across all timeblocks, GMA also maintained its over-all lead in its bailiwick Mega Manila with 35.3 percent, surpassing ABS-CBN’s 29 percent by 6.3 points and TV5’s 13 percent by 22.3 points. Mega Manila’s population share grew to 60 percent from the previous year’s 59 percent. Moreover, KMJS’s winning streak continued in Mega Manila, where it also emerged as the most watch program in February.
16 other programs from GMA made it to the top 30 list including Celebrity Bluff, Magpakailanman, Pepito Manaloto: Ang Tunay na Kuwento, Vampire Ang Daddy Ko and Imbestigador. Rounding out the list of top-rating Kapuso programs in Mega Manila are 24 Oras, Eat Bulaga, Carmela, Adarna, Bubble Gang, Rhodora X, I-Witness, A 100-Year Legacy, Picture! Picture!, Villa Quintana, and Kapuso Movie Festival. Meanwhile, in National Urban TV Audience Measurement (NUTAM) ratings, GMA came ahead of ABS-CBN in the morning block with 30.7 percent, outscoring the latter’s 29.3 percent. GMA was ahead of TV5 across all timeblocks in NUTAM. GMA and TV5 subscribe to Nielsen TV Audience Measurement while ABS-CBN is the lone local major TV network that reportedly subscribes to Kantar Media, formerly known as TNS. In Mega Manila, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement gathers data based on a sample size of 1,190 homes as compared to Kantar Media's 770 homes. Meanwhile, Nielsen has a nationwide urban sample size of 2,000 homes, which is statistically higher than Kantar's sample size of 1,370.
