GMA-7 will soon air a remake of Donna Cruz and Keempee de Leon's 1995 hit drama series "Villa Quintana". Featuring Elmo Magalona and Janine Gutierrez in the lead, the new version which also stars Sunshine Dizon, Paolo Contis, and Raymart Santiago premieres soon on GMA Afternoon Prime block. "Villa Quintana" is derived from William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The drama depicts the tragic love story of a young couple from different social classes. The series, according to Wikipedia, was the first soap opera to be aired on Philippine primetime television (after Anna Liza's reign), pitted against ABS-CBN's top-rating news show TV Patrol. After just a few weeks of airing, Villa Quintana beat TV Patrol in ratings, prompting ABS-CBN to transfer their afternoon soap opera, Mara Clara, to the same timeslot.
